Developing new products and markets requires a significant effort and commitment, typically greater than is initially thought. The first step in any venture is to determine how serious you are about this venture and if you are truly prepared to commit the time and resources necessary to be successful. If other people are  involved, it is critical that they be in agreement and motivated to make it a success. Part of the initial assessment should determine if the venture will complement or take away from other activities. Will it provide synergies and improve the efficiencies of existing operations or will it  conflict with other efforts.
